I just read a gorgeous piece of Who fic -- Twelve/Clara, with implied Danny/Clara. It does lovely things with both of their voices and with the tensions of Clara's current situation, and the missing last word at the very end of the story totally got me. Good stuff, if this is the kind of thing that you like.

I am making a variation on [personal profile] heresluck's green lentils and kielbasa dish (using chorizo because that's what we have; adjusting the cooking technique accordingly) and I think it should turn out pretty tasty.

Also it should be bright and satisfying on a dark and rainy evening, which, yay.

Further reasons for yay: fannish tv again tonight! (Fringe with [personal profile] kouredios. My week has also featured Vampire Diaries with [personal profile] squirrelhaven and Person of Interest and Dr. Who with [personal profile] sanj.) My cup runneth over.

Also there is wine, and soon it will be wine o'clock.

And today I am wearing a favorite necklace, which was a gift, which makes me smile every time I look in the mirror.

\o/!

Having now seen "In the Forest of the Night," I think the best meta/review I've read is this one at Tor. Here's a taste:

In Blake’s poem, the forest of the night stands in for the chaos of the universe and the Tyger is part of the dual nature of the creator of that universe alongside the Lamb. The former is cruel and destructive and capricious while the latter is nurturing and creative and gentle. And while you could ascribe that relationship to the trees and the sun in the episode itself, that relationship also doubles as a meta-commentary on the modes of thought that “In the Forest of the Night” represents for Doctor Who as a show.

Because the narrative within this episode is unabashedly a fairy tale and as such it defies the logical and deductive deconstruction that this particular Doctor is best at. The Eleventh Doctor would undoubtedly feel right at home in this Trafalgar Squarian forest, but the Twelfth Doctor refuses to submit to that kind of story. Stories just don’t appear and neither do forests. Everything has a reason, every cause has an effect...

(I read the review out loud to [personal profile] sanj, as well as the Blake poem. Good stuff.)

Last night [personal profile] sanj and I watched a bit of S3 Person of Interest for the first time in eons. Specifically we watched the second and third episodes of S3.

I can say, in an entirely unspoilery way (which, I mean -- we're the ones who are a solid season behind, so I'm not sure I really need to worry about spoiling people? but whatever :-) that John and Harold continue to be adorable, and that adding Shaw to their dynamic is actually working surprisingly well for me. Oh, and I continue to like Zoe Morgan a lot! And also Joss Carter.

And regarding Root...Collapse )

Rewatching the first ep of the Boston season, and can I just say -- in an entirely non-spoilery way -- that I just adore Richard Blais?

Seriously. ♥ ♥ ♥

Just finished A Death at the Dionysus Club by Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold -- the second Lynes/Mathey book, magic and metaphysics and m/m romance -- and it made me SO happy. If I weren't posting via small touchscreen I would be overflowing with gleeful words. I so hope there is Yuletide fic, because omg, so delicious.

At the end of the most recent episode of Doctor Who (S8 x 09, "Flatline"), there was a teaser which showed Danny along with the Doctor and Clara on their next adventure. I wondered how exactly that's going to come to pass. Here's my theory! (Which I post today, knowing that tomorrow it will probably be jossed. :-) Thanks to [personal profile] sanj for reading!

Come Along
1382 words
set immediately after "Flatline"
Clara/Danny; there might be some Eleven/Amy/Rory implied if you squint

"You could try it too," Clara said, impulsively.
Danny looked startled. "What?"
Okay, she probably should have run this by the Doctor before offering it, but there was nothing she could do about that now.

The link above goes to the AO3; coming soon to my website; all feedback adored. ♥

Last night in our ongoing slow (re)watch (rewatch for me, first-time watch for [personal profile] kouredios) of Fringe we watched two episodes from S2 which I really love -- "Snakehead" and "Grey Matters."

Spoilers, I guess? for something that aired in 2009?Collapse )

In sum: JOHN NOBLE ♥
